Client Evaluations
In general, I consider this is a quite very good excellent monitor: the image and sound are at least as fine as other video infant monitors, battery life of the parent unit is excellent, the range is fairly wonderful... We really bought this and the Summer Best View and attempted them each out and in most techniques I identified them to be similar in performance.
The 3 hang-ups I have with the Avent monitor (and why we returned it):
1) The developed of the base makes it particularly complicated to view something that is essentially beneath it. For instance, if you want to have a bird's eye view of your baby's crib, it will be tough to manage. Considering that the camera can not be wall-mounted it has to go onto a shelf and the camera angle cannot be directed low adequate to make this function. For other kinds of applications this might not matter but for us it created a massive distinction (getting in a position to see directly into the crib versus seeking through the bars of the crib).
2) The battery life on the amera (if not plugged in it runs on 4 AAAs) is not extremely god. We set it up in our baby's room to attempt it out and the batteries did not last via the night (we set it up about 8pm and when I checked at 4am it was dead). I checked to make sure it was fresh batteries, very same story. If you are going to plug it in this won't matter but our kid likes to grab and shake anything that looks like a cord, so getting the camera near his crib with a cord is not a great factor. This wasn't necessarily a enormous problem for us (it can be worked around) but since there was absolutely nothing else that separated it from the Summer monitor and the Summer was wall mountable, there was no reason to invest an additional $20 on this 1.
three) This technique is not expandable. A lot of monitors have the ability to link a great deal more than a single camera to the exact same parent unit, this a single does not at the moment have that capability.
My wife and I currently personal a Philips Avent Simple Child Monitor w/ DECT Technologies, but wanted to attempt this product out too and I was able to do a direct comparison. We did not originally get a video monitor as we felt uncomfortable with the Massive Brother element of watching our baby via video. However, we have grown to like it and it saves us unnecessary trips to the nursery to see if our baby is babbling and playing safely or is in need or support.
Here's what we like and dislike about this digital video monitor after a couple months of use:
POSITIVES:
1. No interference with WiFi networks and cell phones: We have a significant WiFi network with 4 wireless routers, and we reside in a dense neighborhood exactly where there are quite a few WiFi networks inside range. We had no complications with reception on either monitor even when it was close to our iPhones, laptop or computer, WiFi routers, and so forth.
2. No cross-talk between DECT monitors: Even side-by side and set up in the identical room, the two Phillips AVENT monitors brought on no interference with every single other. There is no cross-speak with the neighbor's infant monitor either.
3. Good range: I've walked about 50 feet from baby's room with the video monitor, and the signal is nevertheless fine by means of a few walls. The range could possibly be farther nevertheless -- I haven't tested the full range however.
4. Decent battery life: On standby mode, the rechargeable battery lasts at least five-6 hours. I have accomplished about 3 hours of battery life with the monitor continuously on. Nonetheless, in each instances I haven't tested the complete battery life of the unit and the performance might be even superior.
5. Rather simple setup: Plug it in and turn it on. You do not have to be a rocket scientist.
6. Night vision: Doesn't light up the room and is surprisingly great. It has a bit of that security camera, black and white appear to the video, but it's perfectly really good to see baby in low-light conditions.
Need to have FOR IMPROVEMENT:
1. No two-way communication: My wife and I like the 2-way communication feature on the Philips Avent Fundamental Baby Monitor w/ DECT Technologies, but this AVENT Video monitor has no such two-way feature. It is a handy feature for my wife and I to alert every single other from baby's space rather than yelling by means of the residence.
2. Size: In the age of iPhones and the like, the parent video monitor seems like an oddly massive unit. It is too significant to fit in a pocket, and too awkward to hang from a belt loop. Don't strategy on carrying this around the house too significantly.
