Lorex LW2003 Live 'snap' Video Baby Monitor
Due to the fact the video review is not especially detailed, I want to add a couple of additional comments. To begin with, I totally advocate this monitor. I've listed some specific strengths and weaknesses beneath.
What I liked:
1. Good range. In my two story residence I got decent coverage all through. The signal was a small weak when I stretched it to its furthest doable range, but I by no means lost the picture.
two. On the smaller screen the picture is crisp, with great color. You will never have to wonder what you happen to be seeing. Look very carefully at the image on the video I took of the outdoors and you will see a crisp blue autumn sky with colorful foliage.
three. I believe the portability is a key function. The monitor can be removed from its base and slipped into a pocket as you move about your house. Incredibly nice!
four. You can add cameras, all of which show up on the monitor. You can then pick which camera you want to "zoom" to on the screen. Hopefully you won't be monitoring 4 babies at once, but the capability is there.
What I would like to see improved:
1. Client service! I usually try to test this throughout a assessment, due to the fact it tends to be the "Achilles Heel" of contemporary commerce. I to begin with let the customer service rep (Asian, but highly understandable) know I was writing a review and had a particular dilemma I needed solved (see below). It became clear promptly that the rep was not familiar with the product. Immediately after about 20 minutes he admitted he could not solve my difficulty, but he promised I would receive a return call or email within a couple of hours. Just after ten days I have heard nothing at all. Unacceptable!
2. The monitor is promoted as a camera which can take snapshots of your child, and the advertisements function beautifully lit photos of babies. This is bogus. The camera has a whopping .three megapixels. This is perfectly fine for the tiny monitor screen, but attempting to use it as a camera to photograph your baby will result in a blurry, pixelated photo if you try to even print it 4x6. It puzzles me that Lorex even included a microSD card and adapter for you to transfer your pictures to a computer system. You wouldn't genuinely try to photograph your stunning child with a .3 MP camera, would you? Which brings me to an additional point . . .
three. The reason I referred to as customer service was the image from the camera when I took a snapshot was not only rotated (effortlessly fixed) but reversed. For instance, any printing would appear backwards. I am not certain if this is peculiar to the sample I received, but it is annoying to be confident. Yes you can fix this in a photo editor, but you should not have to. I have no idea what's going on, and neither did client service. The image is fine on the monitor screen, and the trouble only shows up when you transfer a picture, which you are unlikely to do anyway offered the poor resolution.
So let's sum up: I certainly like the Lorex Child Monitor and I would undoubtedly acquire it. I take off 1 star for the failure of customer service to respond to my situation and the misleading pictures which imply the monitor can be utilized to take wonderful superior pictures. If you buy it with the idea that you are only monitoring your infant (pets, and so on) and not capturing lifetime memories, you will be quite happy.

So far I like this baby video monitor.
- The video superior is terrific
- Night vision works well
- It functions even with my WiFi 802.11g, 2.4 GHz cordless phone, 2.four GHz wireless speakers and a microwave oven.
- Battery life is fantastic. I've had the receiver on for 5 hours and the battery indicator is down to 33%. This is with VOX and Energy Save both off.
- I dropped this 2x on our (challenging) floor and it nevertheless functions (phew).
- I expecially like the 2-way communication. I don't use it a lot to speak to our baby. I identified it to be valuable when my wife is with our child and requirements to tell me some thing. Not only can I hear her by means of the handheld monitor but I could reply! It really is like getting a video walkie-talkie.
- Uses a micro-USB (I think) connector for energy. This is the identical connector put to use by some electronics (like my old Garmin nuvi 350, my Logitech Harmony 550 remote, etc). If you want an additional charger in an additional space you could likely use a single you currently have that came with a further product.
- The camera has a rechargeable internal battery. I locate this convenient when I want to temporarily move the camera (i.e., to maintain an eye on our child when in her swing) with no fussing about power cords. I don't know how long the battery lasts as I only use it like this for a few tens of minutes.
Wish list:
- Help many handheld receivers (so extra than one particular parent can monitor the infant). I have not noticed any digital video infant monitors help this.
- It would be nice if the camera can be mounted on a tripod to make it a lot more transportable (i.e., bring it to my property workplace when bring the baby's bassinet there, and so on).
- I wish the handheld had a flip-out stand so I can prop it up whilst away from the charging base. This would be good to have but not that important for me.
What I don't like:
- The plastic looks and feels low cost
- The silver logo (not red and black as shown in product pictures) looks even less expensive -- sort of like it was just spray painted on it (like an engineering project or a low-priced Chinese knockoff... heck those even look greater from time to time). I know this is less very important than the technical attributes but still, appearance does matter. The monitor provides off a cheap vibe in my opinion.
- Volume on the handheld monitor is kinda low
- A crib mounting bracket would be good to have. I thought to be mounting the camera on the wall but it was too far from our child (and she does not usually face the wall!). Rather, I strapped it onto the crib myself but will have to move it once the youngster gets older and can reach it.
What I hate:
- Sales and client service is a joke! I have never noticed reside sales chat active and I've been checking for a month or longer. I sent an e-mail to customer assistance and no one replied. I also left a voice mail for sales help and again no reply. [update 11/22/2011: Now tech support appears to be much more responsive. I inquired about a replacement charging dock and received a prompt reply]
Advised?
Sure! I nevertheless advise the item but all bets are off if you need technical help.
